WHAT IS AN FFL TRANSFER?

If you purchase a firearm out of state, federal law requires that the firearm be transferred through an FFL (Federal Firearm License) Dealer. The firearm is shipped to us, and we transfer the firearm to you.

 Please refer to the “FFL TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS” section of this page PRIOR to purchasing/shipping your firearm.

FFL TRANSFER PROCESS

  • FFL to FFL paperwork.
  • Shipment arrives at our location and is logged in.
  • We will call/email to notify you that your item is ready for pickup.
  • Schedule a pick-up appointment using the bottom right “APPOINTMENT” link on this page.
  • Provide your ID(s) to complete Form 4473 and NICS check.
  • Go home with your new toy!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

TRANSFER FEES

For handguns, rifles, shotguns & lower receivers.

$29 for the first three items on one ATF transfer form.

$10 each additional item.

Be aware, we are not a storage facility, but we WILL charge storage fees if you do not pick up your item within 14 days of the confirmation of receipt of your item and notification of requested pick up. 

We do not transfer NFA items at this time.

SHIPPING COSTS

You are responsible for all shipping costs both to and from our facility, in addition to the applicable fee. Make sure to find out the return policies of 3rd party vendors.

DELAYED PICKUP

If you cannot pick up your firearm within 14 days, we are required to start the return process. If the you are aware that you cannot pick up your firearm within the 14-day period, you must communicate with admin@nolaffltransfer.com so that the return process will not be started. 

If you can’t pick up the firearm within 30 days you will be charged an additional $30 storage and admin fee. 

After 3 months, the firearm is considered abandoned and is surrendered – with no compensation.

FFL TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS

Louisiana Residency

-Customer must be of legal age.

-A Louisiana resident. Out of State individuals/ID’s cannot be accepted.

-Louisiana Driver’s License with your current address (No PO Box). Valid/not expired.

-A Louisiana ID and your current address (No PO Box). Valid/not expired.

-A Louisiana Concealed Carry ID.

-Military ID with Current PERMANANT orders is also acceptable. 

-Utility Bills, Restricted Driver’s Licenses, Limited Driver’s Licenses, or Hunting Licenses are not valid/acceptable forms of ID.

Background Check

-You will be required to pass the required criminal background check before receiving your transfer. If you fail the criminal background check, you will be required to pay the shipping charges to return the firearm back to the original sender. 

Friends and Family and ATF’s ‘Straw Purchaser’ laws

-No one else is allowed to come in and pick up a firearm for you. Do not ask someone to pick up your gun for you. This is illegal and considered a straw purchase.

Gifting firearms

-We understand people will often gift a firearm to a friend, family, spouse. 

-To be within the confines of ATF’s ‘straw purchase’ laws, we require that the purchaser/name of invoicee on shipment of firearm sign a personal property release form prior to their family member beginning the FFL ATF transfer form.

-Please note that we receive transfers on a daily basis and there is paperwork required by the federal government for each firearm. This process is completed as soon as possible, but, does not happen immediately upon receipt. A notification from the carrier does not mean that we have processed your transfer. Until you are notified by NOLA FFL Transfer, your firearm is NOT ready for pickup. We will make sure your firearm gets into your hands in a safe and timely fashion and will notify you when your firearm is ready for pickup.

DENIED BACKGROUND CHECK

If your federal NICS background check is returned as denied, you will not be allowed to take possession of the firearm. NOLA FFL Transfer is never given the reason for a Denied NICS report. NOLA FFL Transfer is not responsible for any refunds, shipping, deposits, or other fees incurred in this process. The firearm will be returned to the seller. Any fees associated with the return of the firearm are your sole responsibility. If denied, you have the option to appeal. You must let us know immediately that you are attempting to appeal.

When ordering on-line please get a tracking number for your transfer. NOLA FFL Transfer is not responsible for, and cannot track shipments or supply you with an ETA when transferring to NOLA FFL Transfer.

Once the firearm arrives at NOLA FFL Transfer, it can take up to 24 to 72 business hours to enter into our system (Weekends and holidays not included) and have it ready for you to pick up. Please wait for us to contact you to let you know your firearm is ready for pick-up.

NOLA FFL Transfer follows all ATF and local laws regarding the transferring of firearms. You will be required to complete a 4473. Unless you possess a Louisiana CCW, you must pass a NICS background check prior to transfer/pick up a firearms/NFA item. You must provide a valid form of identification to complete this process. You must be of legal age, a Louisiana resident with a valid (not expired) Louisiana Driver’s License with your current address (No PO Box), a Louisiana ID (not expired) with a photo and your current address (No P. Box), Louisiana concealed Carry ID, and additional supporting government documentation if necessary.  Military ID with Current Orders is also acceptable. Utility Bills, Restricted Driver’s Licenses, Limited Driver’s Licenses, or Hunting Licenses are not valid/acceptable forms of ID.

Any firearm left more than 30 days after notification will be charged a minimum of $30 per month. After 3 months, the firearm is considered abandoned and is surrendered – with no compensation.

If you need to return your purchase before completing the FFL transfer, you need to contact the retailer or store where it was originally purchased and request an RMA. In addition, you need to ask if they provide the shipping label for the return. Each company has their own policy on whether they pay for return shipping and the time frame in which a return is allowed. If they do not provide a shipping label you will be responsible for shipping costs.
